Definition: Hypnotic
Hypnotic drugs are a class of psychoactive drugs with sedative effects. They induce sleep and are used in the treatment of sleep disorders such as insomnia and also anxiety. They may also be used in surgical anaesthesia. Hypnotics include benzodiazepines like Temazepam and Diazepam (Valium), and also non-benzodiazepines like Zopiclone.
