Adverse Childhood Experiences ACEs
profiadau-niweidiol-yn-ystod-plentyndod-acesAdverse childhood experiences (ACEs) are extreme stressful and/or traumatic experiences that occur during childhood. Examples of ACEs include physical or sexual abuse, domestic violence within the family, having a parent in prison or parents divorcing. More than half of adults have at least one ACE, while nearly a fifth report four or more ACEs. People with ACEs are at greater risk of physical and mental health issues later in life. ACEs are also a major risk factor for drug problems, with for instance those who have experienced five or more ACEs up to ten times more likely to report illicit drug addiction compared to those without any ACEs.
