Deep Vein Thrombosis

thrombosis-gwythiennau-dwfn

Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is a blood clot in one of the deep veins in the body, usually in the legs. A blood clot can occur in larger veins that run through the muscles of the calf and the thigh. Blood clots that develop in a vein are also known as venous thrombosis. Symptoms can include pain, swelling and a heavy aching sensation in the leg. DVT may lead to complications such as blockages in blood vessels in the lungs (pulmonary embolism). See your GP if you think you may have symptoms of a DVT.
