Dependence is a more precise term for addiction. Dependence on drugs can be both psychological and/or a physical. Psychological dependence can occur with any rewarding behaviour, or any drug taken regularly. But with some drugs like heroin, cigarettes or alcohol, there can also be a physical dependence. This means that when regularly users stop taking the drug, they experience physical withdrawal symptoms as well as psychological ones.
