Detox

This is a short way of saying 'detoxification'. This is a medically supervised way of coming off drugs or alcohol. This either involves taking prescribed drugs that reduce the withdrawal symptoms or being given a gradually reducing dose of a substitute drug. In the case of street heroin this might be methadone.
