Hepatitis
hepatitisHepatitis means inflammation of the liver. Heavy alcohol use and certain medical conditions can cause hepatitis. However, hepatitis is often caused by blood borne viruses. The main viruses that effect people who use drugs are hepatitis B, and hepatitis C. These viruses are mainly spread when needles, syringes, water pots and other injection equipment is shared. There is a vaccine available to prevent hepatitis B. There is no vaccine for hepatitis C, but there are now effective treatments.
