Maintenance

Maintenance is a name for a type of drug treatment in which substitute drugs, usually methadone or buprenorphine are prescribed so that a person dependent on opioids does not have to rely on street supplies so has a chance of stability and recovery. It is sometimes called Medically Assisted Therapy/Treatment (MAT) or, Opioid Agonist Therapy/Treatment (OAT).
