Paranoia

paranoia

A state of mental ill health in which the sufferer imagines that external events or people are uniquely linked to them. Feelings of anger, persecution, suspicion or isolation are commonly linked with paranoia. It can result from prolonged alcohol or drug abuse - particularly amphetamines or cocaine. With amphetamine or cocaine, feelings of persecution can be enhanced by the illegal status of the drug. There may well be people such as policemen trying the 'get' the paranoid individual. The paranoid feelings usually stop if the drug use is stopped.
