Promethazine

Also known by the brand name Phenergan, is an antihistamine with sedative properties found in a number of over the counter (OTC) preparations used for treating allergies and to prevent nausea. In the US it is available in (an often a purple-coloured mixture) with codeine which is used as a base to make ‘Lean’ (Purple Drank etc). As this mixture is unavailable in the UK, sometimes promethazine is added to a codeine mix to make home-made ‘Lean’.
