Psychosis is where people lose some contact with reality. This might involve seeing or hearing things that other people cannot see or hear (hallucinations) and believing things that are not actually true (delusions). These are known as psychotic symptoms. Psychosis can be triggered by mental (psychological) or general medical conditions. Psychosis may also be triggered by alcohol and drugs, in particular cannabis and stimulant drugs like cocaine. Drug related psychosis is usually temporary, provided you stop the use of the drugs and receive treatment.
